U.S. Air Force Academy Food Service Worker in Air Force Academy, Colorado

Summary About the position: This position will be assigned to the Arnold Hall Hap's Place, Air Force Academy, Colorado. This position does not include benefits. Responsibilities Assembles fresh fruit or green salads in quantity using prepared ingredients and served into standard serving sizes. Makes cold sandwiches using prepared ingredients. Sets up lines and side service stands with hot and cold food items. Prepares items such as wings, chicken tenders, fries and mozzarella sticks. Sorts, washes, peels and cuts fresh fruits and vegetables. Prepares food by peeling, chopping, grinding, paring, cutting, slicing, dicing, pureeing, dredging, flouring or breading; weighs, measures and assembles ingredients for regular menu items; portions foods for distribution and food service, and covers, dates and stores leftovers according to established procedures. Breaks down and cleans area when food service is complete. Scrapes, soaks, scours and scrubs bowls, pots and pans. Sets up napkins, condiments and cold menu items (e.g., salad, dessert, bread and cold beverages) on a serving line. Removes dishes and trays from tables. Operates, breaks down and cleans all electrical equipment for food preparation. Cleans kitchen equipment (e.g., worktables, sinks and refrigerators). Loads and operates dishwashers, stores clean dishes, glasses and silverware. Washes tables and counters, sweeps and mops kitchen floors, cleans windows, washes walls and cleans and sanitizes trashcans. Performs heavy duty cleaning tasks such as ceilings, exhaust hoods, under and behind kitchen equipment, washes floors and walls, walk-in refrigerators and freezers, sanitizes garbage cans. Washes and cleans kitchen equipment. Sets up and operates dishwashers, performs preventive maintenance and cleaning. Rotates beer kegs and insures keg cooler is maintained. Cleans offices, storerooms, corridors, stairways, facilities, and other areas. Sweeps, dry mops, scrubs, waxes, and polishes floors, using brooms mops, lightweight vacuum cleaners, and lightweight floor scrubbers and buffers. Dusts, waxes, and polishes furniture. Empties ashtrays and wastebaskets. Washes walls, windows, and blinds that can be reached without climbing ladders or scaffolds. Keeps a stock of cleaning materials and equipment needed to do the work. Tells supervisor when more materials are needed or when equipment needs repair or replacement. Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifying Experience: No previous experience or training is required. Ability to follow simple oral instructions. Must be able to satisfactorily complete a Tier 1 background investigation. Ability to use hand tools for cleaning, and operate simple machines. Skill in doing tasks with several steps and must use judgement in sequencing tasks. Knowledge of sanitation standards in handling and serving food, and for cleaning equipment and work area. Ability to be able to use hand or lightweight powered cleaning tools or equipment. Ability to frequently lift and empty wastebaskets, and occasionally lift and carry items weighing up to 20 pounds. Ability to continuously stand, bend, stoop, and reach for long periods of time. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution. FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying. Additional Information Individual must fully meet qualification/eligibility/background requirements for this position.
