Description of Job
Provide training, site planning, equipment, and support to assigned Watercraft Inspection and Decontamination Station within your region. Schedule and visit each WID station once per month and respond to requests by WID Supervisors.
Serve as a certified Aquatic Nuisance Species (ANS) Watercraft Inspection and Decontamination (WID) Trainer and conduct virtual and hands trainings within your region at the direction of the Invasive Species Coordinator or Specialist.
Position includes arranging boats and decontamination units for demonstrations, providing engaging classroom presentations and effective hands-on outdoor demonstration sessions, and all other aspects of training.
Trainer must follow current state procedures, using state issued presentation materials without alterations, at all times.
Identify site improvements, repairs, and infrastructure demands at your assigned WID station. Report these improvements/needs to the Invasive Species Coordinator and facilitate the execution of the upgrades as directed.
Transport decontamination units to WIDS prior to boat ramp opening dates. Assist with power washer unit maintenance, servicing, diagnostics, repair, and storage throughout the season. Remove and properly winterize or store decontamination units after ramp closing dates.
Respond to request for assistance by Regional and Ramp Leads as needed.
In addition, assist the Invasive Species Coordinator and Invasive Species Specialist with the following tasks as assigned:
Provide excellent customer service to members of the public and partner agencies.
Write technical reports, memos, and briefing documents.
Attend weekly ANS staff meetings, WID supervisor meetings, and site planning meeting
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights
BASIC REQUIREMENTS
Minimum 1 year of experience working in the field of ANS or Invasive Species.
Current (Stage II) Certification in Watercraft Inspection and Decontamination.
Experience performing boat inspections and decontaminations.
Experience working with the public in a customer service related field.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Outstanding public speaking and presentation skills.
Excellent driving record and ability to work weekends, early mornings and evenings.
Ability to travel and be away from home every week if needed.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS: Bachelors Degree in Biological Sciences or comparable work experience.
o Employee may be asked to camp in rustic settings and must provide own camping equipment and gear when performing biological field work.
