POSITION SUMMARY

The Weld Inspection Trainee will be responsible for inspecting and evaluating the Companys weldingprocesses, test methods, discontinuities, materials, qualifications, and standards to ensure thatweldments (Mig and/or Tig) and welding-related activities comply with all applicable safety and qualitycriteria in accordance with AWS standards.

The role of the Weld Inspection Trainee is critical to the safety and structural soundness of weldingequipment. Responsible for monitoring and evaluating the welding workflow process and productionstandards to produce secure and strong aluminum welds to whole and partially finished products.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Measure work items with straightedges or templates to ensure conformance with specifications.
  • Evaluate clamp, tack-weld, or bolt component parts to obtain required configurations and positions for welding.
  • Prepare all material surfaces to be welded, ensuring that there is no loose or thick scale, slag, rust, moisture, grease, or other foreign matter.

  • Monitor the fitting, burning, and welding processes being performed by staff to avoid overheating of parts or warping, shrinking, distortion, or expansion of material.
  • Determine the required equipment and welding methods, applying knowledge of welding techniques.
  • Detect faulty operation of equipment or defective materials and notify Shop Manager.
  • Communicate to Shop Manager any injury, unsafe act or condition, or failure of equipment.
  • Maintain the work area in neat and clean condition and ensure that materials and tools are returned to proper storage. Dispose of waste materials after completion of work assignments

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • 1-3 years welding work related experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
  • AWS Certified Associate Welding Inspector (CAWI); AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) preferred (not required); certification related training and on-the-job training will be provided.
  • Communication: Talking to others to convey information effectively. Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
  • Instructing: Teaching others how to do something.
  • Mathematics: Using mathematics to solve problems.
  • Critical Thinking: Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternate solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems. Equipment Selection: Determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Performing routine ma ntenance on equipment and determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed.
  • Quality of Work/Accuracy: Ability to perform assigned duties at acceptable standards of workmanship, accuracy, and timeliness. Completes work thoroughly without constant correction. Maintains quality of work under stressful situations.
  • Must be safety-focused without exception.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The position involves occasional exposure to outdoor weather conditions and loud noise levels.
