JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Pennsylvania State University – Abington College invites applications for a non-tenure-track, full-time Lecturer or Assistant Teaching Professor position in Management Information Systems (MIS). The courses in MIS mainly support the Business-related degree programs offered at Abington College.

Beginning in July or August 2024, this is a 36-week non tenured faculty line, limited-term (single year) academic appointment with a strong expectation of continuation for subsequent years, given program needs. Contract reviews will be done annually on June 30th. The incumbent will teach four courses each semester:

  • Two courses in-residence at Penn State Abington for its Business degree programs (in-person, hybrid or online formats)

  • Two courses online for Penn State’s World Campus BSBIC program

The successful candidate should be able to teach introductory and advanced courses in MIS including, but not limited to,

  • Business Data Analytics

  • Introduction to Data Analysis

  • Business Data Management

The curriculum is expected to emphasize the use of spreadsheet (Excel functions) and database (Access) applications in business decision-making.

A commitment to excellence and innovation in undergraduate teaching and mentoring is also essential. The ideal candidate will have experience teaching diverse student populations and demonstrate interest in facilitating student mentoring, advising, and career development. The teaching load is 4-4 with a possible portion of courses offered online across multiple campuses. The incumbent will have student advising responsibilities and will be expected to contribute to the college community through service to the college, division, university profession and community. Opportunities for professional development and later promotion are available and will be supported.

Candidates must have a minimum of an earned master’s degree in business management information systems (MIS) or closely related field. Title for this position is determined by the educational level of the finalist at the time of appointment. Candidates with a master’s degree will be appointed as Lecturer. Candidates with a doctorate from regionally accredited institution will be appointed as Assistant Teaching Professor.
