Job/Position DescriptionVehicle Driver IPerforms routine (journey-level) motor vehicle operations. Work involves operating motor vehicles to transport passengers and/or cargo. Works under moderate supervision with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. The Vehicle Driver 1 routinely works an eight hour shift as directed by the supervisor. Occasional special events and/or overnight trips require drivers to work extra hours as needed. Vehicle Drivers are supervised by a Recreation/Transportation Supervisor. The Vehicle Driver 1 drives state vehicles in order to provide transportation services to and from various on-campus and in-town locations, e.g. physician's and other medical appointments, workshops, OT/PT, activity centers, hospitals, and other facilities as needed. Drivers are also responsible for safely transporting residents and cargo to out of town facilities/activities as needed. Essential Job FunctionsAttends work on a regular and predictable schedule in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned. 1. Operates motor vehicles such as automobiles, vans, trucks, and buses to pick up various types of cargo and to transport passengers. 2. Prepares and maintains records pertaining to vehicle operation. 3. Ensures vehicle passenger and cargo capacity is not exceeded and that passengers use safety restraints. 4. Secures and protects cargo. ) 5. Fuels vehicles. ) 6. Assists in the safe loading and unloading of passengers and cargo. 7. Operate vehicle power lift gates. 8. Maintain vehicle log. 9. Performs related work as assigned. Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agencyand#146;s obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location. Registrations, Licensure Requirements or CertificationsMust possess a valid Class "C" Texas driverand#146;s license. Possession of a Commercial Driverand#146;s License (CDL) may be required. Applicants with an out-of-state driverand#146;s license must provide an original certified driving record from the state of driving licensure. Eligible driving record required based on HHSC Fleet Management policy Knowledge Skills Abilities1. Knowledge of motor vehicle operations; of passenger and cargo loading and unloading methods; of traffic rules and regulations; and of the maintenance of motor vehicles. 2. Skill in operating motor vehicles. 3. Ability to follow schedules and instructions in operating vehicles; and to follow practices in loading and unloading cargo. Initial Screening CriteriaMust have a high school diploma or GED. Must have an acceptable driving record. Must be available to work hours other than 8-5. Additional InformationThe position may be required to work overtime and/or extended hours. Must be willing to work weekends and holidays. Salary Note: The salary offered will follow HHS starting salary guidelines which are typically made at or near the minimum of the salary range.
