GENERAL DESCRIPTION

With little supervision, to perform manual work involved in ground maintenance and general cleaning of cemetery grounds, and all cemetery facilities.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

This position exercises no supervision.

IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Operate various types and sizes of equipment such as edgers, line trimmers, leaf blowers, floor buffers, and vacuums in the maintenance of cemetery grounds, and all cemetery facilities.

Water and fertilize grass, trees, shrubs, and other plants, trim and prune trees and shrubs.

Make simple repairs on cemetery equipment and facilities.

Sweep and clean sidewalks and building exteriors; pick up litter; clean restrooms work areas, and public areas throughout cemetery.

Operate a City/State vehicle as required, to travel to various facilities, grounds, construction sites, and other various sites throughout the Veterans Cemetery and or City, as needed.

Operate truck and trailer, small maintenance and construction equipment.

May assist with grave digging and funeral service preparations, as well as other cemetery tasks as assigned by supervisor.

Identify and report on facility and equipment conditions.

OTHER JOB-RELATED DUTIES

Perform other job-related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of:

Methods, materials, and equipment used in maintenance and custodial work.

Occupational hazards and safety precautions of general maintenance work.

Safe driving principles and practices.

Skill to:

Learn to operate a variety of equipment, tools, and vehicles including pick-up truck, leaf blower, push mower, edger, string trimmer, floor buffer, and vacuum.

Operate a motor vehicle safely.

Ability to:

Become familiar with the National Cemetery Administrations and Texas Veterans Land Board regulations, policies, and procedures.

Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, both internally and externally.

Experience and Training Guidelines:

Experience:

Some experience in grounds maintenance, custodial, or related manual work is preferred.

Education/Training:

Formal or informal education or training, which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance is required.

License or Certificate:

A valid Texas drivers license; the ability to obtain one within ninety (90) days of employment, or a military waiver is required.

Special Requirements:

Essential duties require the following physical skills and work environment:

Bloodborne Pathogens training, HazCom training, and HIPAA Compliance training are required within sixty (60) days of employment.

Exposure to noise, outdoors, vibration, chemicals, and mechanical hazards.

Ability to travel to different sites.
