Job/Position DescriptionLaboratory Technician IIStarting salary: $2552.00 monthlyCollecting, labeling, processing and packaging of specimens appropriately for shipment to the performing lab. Scheduling and giving instructions for the collection of specimens, performs limited instrument maintenance. Performs computer Data entry of patient demographics, lab test orders, and international Classification of Diseases (ICD-9) codes into the Laboratory Information System (LIS). Frequently performs venipunctures as ordered by health care provider, provides courier service. Must demonstrate and conform to all safety standards and procedures. Must drive a state vehicle and maintain required driver training. Essential Job FunctionsAttends work on a regular basis and may be required to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, even a rotating schedule, extended shift and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned. Collection, preparation and processing of specimen. Performs duties and tasks and enters data, patient demographics, orders, generates lab reports. Electronically retrieves and transfers lab results and other data. Function as an operator of the Laboratory Information System (LIS) to manually enter results and generate Reports. Tracks request to Austin State Hospital (ASH), Texas Department of Health (TDH) and local lab for lab test and follows up on overdue results, by fax and/or phone. Keeping with HHSC and AbSSLC Infection Control rules and safety policies. Serves as a point of contact on specimen, request and report problems. Reconciles the accuracy of patient information with reimbursement information forms and ensures that all data areas are updated as needed to ensure the accuracy of demographics and billing information. Codes lab test in the LIS and for local laboratory with diagnosis codes for eligible patients to facilitate the reimbursement process. Locates proper codes in reference Performs limited maintenance on centrifuges, e.g. cleaning and checking/changing brushes. Actively participates in weekend/holiday coverage for call. Adequate coverage is maintained. Responds to call in a prompt and timely manner, Regularly uses appropriate personal protective equipment e.g., gloves, shoes, clothing. All contaminated items are properly disposed of in a timely manner. sources as necessary. Manages files of confidential medical reports, personnel files, lab records, reports and Correspondence files to ensure the availability of information. Performs related secretarial and clerical task as needed for assigned to ensure the continuity of delivery of services. Provides courier service for samples, X-rays, etc. Maintains current Texas Driver License and remains cleared to drive state vehicle. Ability to help with stocking supplies. Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agencyand#146;s obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location. Registrations, Licensure Requirements or CertificationsPhlebotomy certification Knowledge Skills Abilities Skilled in performing venipunctures.
