Job/Position DescriptionClerk IThe Clerk I will be directly supervised by the Vocational Services Director. The Clerk I primary responsibility will be to coordinate and complete all duties pertaining to the payroll of individuals receiving Vocational Services. Other duties will include entering data daily, and assist staff in providing direct services to individuals. Essential Job FunctionsAttends work on a regular and predictable schedule in accordance with agency leave policy. Compiles information for individualsand#146; monthly pay through the Voc. Shop payroll system. Ensures quality control standards are met for payroll by reconciliation to trainers and#145;entries. Works with Supervisors to ensure payroll data is completed according to standards. Teaches trainers to complete payroll data entry accurately. Ensures payroll information is sent to accounting according to firm deadlines. Ensures individuals are paid according to Department of Labor rules and regulations. Prepares all payroll reports and distributes accurately and according to cutoff dates. Files records in a regular and timely manner. Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agencyand#146;s obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location. Registrations, Licensure Requirements or CertificationsMust possess valid Texas driverand#146;s license or obtain it no later than 90 days after hire date. Applicants with an out-of-state driverand#146;s license must provide an original certified driving record from the state of driving licensure. Eligible driving record required based on HHSC Fleet Management policy Knowledge Skills AbilitiesKnowledge of computer systems, MSWord, Outlook, Excel, and Access HR. Effective written and oral communication skills. Works cooperatively with others. Ability to learn new payroll systems, generate reports, and maintain data all within established deadlines. Skill in operating office machines to include: computer, calculator, copier, facsimile machine. Skill in using mathematical computations. Initial Screening CriteriaHigh school graduate or GED equivalent. Use of office machines to include computer experience. Work experience or education/training to indicate general understanding of the skills/abilities to perform duties. Able to communicate both orally and in writing. Understands basic math computations. Able to recognize errors and problem solve independently. Additional InformationSalary Note: The salary offered will follow HHS starting salary guidelines which are typically made at or near the minimum of the salary range.
