GE Vernova Lead Commercial Counsel - Francophone in Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire (Ivory Coast)

Job Description Summary

This role will lead the GE Vernova (Gas Power) Legal function for Francophone West/Central Africa (Cote d'Ivoire, Senegal, Cameroon, Chad, Congo, etc) in all aspects of legal, commercial, labour and employment, compliance and regulatory issues in those countries. This role will report to the Executive General Counsel, SSA.

As the Lead Commercial Counsel and subject matter expert, this role is responsible for legal and compliance mattes in the region, especially providing support to the business as the key commercial counsel, supporting with bids and tenders, and negotiating the transaction documents.

The role shall work with the Compliance Team, and engage with business leaders and managers at all levels in the organization to influence culture, implement our compliance program and ensure an environment that fosters open reporting and integrity.

The key focus is to ensure that GE Vernova business, receives the relevant legal support for growth, mitigating risk and protecting the GEV brand in those countries.

Job Description

What you’ll do;

  • Legal support for GE Vernova Gas Power commercial activities, and responsible for reviewing proposed terms and conditions contained in customer invitations to tender, recommending changes based on the GEV Gas Power standard terms and conditions, prepare exceptions/qualifications, and participate in subsequent contract negotiations.

  • Utilizes in-depth knowledge of a discipline and analytical thinking to execute policy/strategy. Basic knowledge of related job disciplines.

  • Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience. May lead small projects with low risks and resource requirements. Explains information; developing skills to bring team members to consensus around topics within field. Conveys performance expectations and may handle sensitive issues.

  • Jobs at this level, function with some autonomy, subject to functional practices and precedents, and are covered by well-defined policies or review of end results.

  • Uses some judgment and has the ability to propose different solutions outside of set parameters to address more complicated, day-to-day problems. Has ability to prioritize information for data analysis. Uses technical experience and analytical thinking. Uses multiple internal and limited external sources outside of own team to arrive at decisions.

  • Provide support on labour and employment issues including: employment litigation management (including selection and management of outside counsel and active participation in development of case strategy); HR day-to-day advice; employee and union relations; restructuring, outsourcing; ombuds concerns and investigations; inclusion and diversity; employment policies; employee discipline, grievances and termination; employment contracts and separation agreements; working time obligations.

What you’ll bring

  • Law Graduate, and admitted to the relevant jurisdiction’s Bar; Active Bar or Law Society Membership.

  • Significant related work experience within a law firm or Corporate environment.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Effective command of English and French languages.

  • Excellent critical thinking skills. Concise & clear communication in individual and larger settings.

  • Experience working and living in the Sub-Saharan Africa region. Local work authorization required.
