    Job Summary

  • In a patient care setting, the Respiratory Therapist will perform specific duties and responsibilities as outlined below. Under medical supervision, the individual will be required to deliver respiratory care and cardiology services to patients from neonatal to geriatric age and in all areas of the hospital, both inpatient and outpatient.

  • Competency standards of performance that are required for that area to which the practitioner is assigned must be maintained as per policy.

  • The Respiratory Therapist may be required at times to supervise and be responsible for the work of other respiratory care practitioners and EKG technicians. The practitioner may be assigned to orientation and in-service education.

  • The Respiratory Therapist is responsible to the Respiratory Care/ Neurodiagnostics Supervisor. The practitioner works under the supervision of the Medical Director for Cardiopulmonary Services or other special Care areas and carries out assigned duties and responsibilities according to the policies, procedures, and standards approved by the Medical Director.

  • This individual is expected to perform duties and responsibilities outlined below with minimal or indirect supervision and will be required to make some independent decisions.

  • The Respiratory Therapist will be responsible for helping cover assigned shifts as well as possible call shifts. All benefit eligible employees will cover weekends, holidays, and call when necessary.

    Education and/or Experience

  • The National Board must recognize the individual for Respiratory Care as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) with the equivalent years of experience.

  • Graduation from an AMA-accredited educational program for Respiratory Therapy is required. Anyone that graduates after 2002 must also show new certification from NBRC every 5 years. Anyone graduating prior to 2002 is exempt from this regulation.

  • Basic Cardiac Life Support, ACLS and PALS training will be completed and maintained.

  • Proper and complete orientation to the department and hospital policies and procedures is required.

  • Competency standards must be met as required by department policy.

  • The RRT is required to maintain the competency standards as set by the department and hospital including adult, pediatric, and neonatal age groups in the following areas: mechanical ventilation, Arterial Blood gas analysis and drawing, via puncture and arterial lines, CPAP/BiPAP, and all other procedures and policies outlined in the department manuals.

    Licensure/Certification/Registration

  • The individual must be able to meet licensure requirements in the State of South Dakota and maintain their license.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) is required.

  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) is required.

  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) is required.

    Work Schedule

  • Varied Shifts; PRN

  • 6:00 am - 6:30 pm, 6:00 pm - 6:30 am

    Pay

    The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.

  • $26.25 - $39.50 per hour
