Aberdeen School District Custodian Level II - Days in ABERDEEN, South Dakota

Hours: 9:00 am - 6:00 pm during the school year. Summer hours begin when the school year ends.

Salary Range: $15.45 per hour, subject to increase based on experience.

Experience: Job related experience is desired. Certificate: Valid Driver's License Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Clearances: Employment is contingent upon a Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance, paid for by the applicant.

The job of Custodian Level II is done for the purpose/s of maintaining an attractive, sanitary and safe facility for students, staff and public; providing equipment and furniture arrangements for meetings, classroom activities, and events; and performing minor repairs and preventive maintenance; minimizing property damage, loss and liability exposure.

This job reports to Director of Operational Services/District Facilities Foreman.

Essential Functions

  1. Arranges furnishings and equipment (e.g. tables, chairs, bleachers, etc.) for the purpose of providing adequate preparations for meetings, classroom activities and special events.
  2. Cleans assigned school or district facilities (e.g. classrooms, offices, restrooms, lunch rooms, halls, carpets, removes graffiti, windows, walls, bleachers, stage, locker and toilet room sanitation, kitchen, sidewalks, grounds, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining a sanitary, safe and attractive environment at a School or District Office.
  3. Distributes supplies, equipment , etc. (e.g. fill soap dispensers, towel/toilet paper dispensers, packages, furniture, etc.) for the purpose of disseminating materials to appropriate parties and/or locations.
  4. Informs students, other site personnel, visitors for the purpose of providing information regarding activities, safety and/or proper maintenance of facilities.
  5. Inspects facilities for the purpose of ensuring that the site is suitable for safe operations, maintained in an attractive and clean condition, and/or identifying/reporting necessary repairs due to vandalism, equipment breakage, weather conditions, etc.
  6. Maintains supplies and equipment (e.g. cleaning solutions, paper products, vacuum, mops, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of items required to properly maintain facilities.
  7. Prepares facility for daily operations as may be required (e.g. opening gates, raising flags, unlocks doors, removing snow, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring facilities are operational and safe for occupancy.
  8. Responds to immediate safety and/or operational concerns (e.g. facility damage, unauthorized persons, alarms, etc.) for the purpose of taking appropriate action to resolve immediate safety issues and maintaining a functioning educational environment.
  9. Secures facilities as assigned (e.g. lock doors, turn off lights, sets alarm, etc.) for the purpose of minimizing property damage, equipment loss and/or potential liability.

Other Functions

  • Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment.

Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications Skills, Knowledge and Abilities SKILLS are required to perform multiple tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operating equipment used in industrial maintenance including electrical cleaning equipment, common tools, etc.; and adhering to safety practices. KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math; understand written procedures, write routine documents, and speak clearly; and understand multi-step written and oral instructions. Specific Knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the j b include: methods of industrial cleaning; and safety practices and procedures. ABILITY is required to schedule activities and/or meetings; collate data; and use job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing specific, defined processes; and operate equipment using a variety of standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a wide diversity of individuals; work with specific, job-related data; and utilize job-related equipment. Some problem solving may be required to identify issues and select action plans. Problem solving with data requires following prescribed guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is limited to moderate. Specific Ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adapting to changing work priorities; communicating with diverse groups; and working as part of a team.

Working Environment The usual and customary methods of performing the jobs functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling some climbing and balancing frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 10% sitting, 60% walking, and 30% standing. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and under conditions with some exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.
