This position supports the US Army Common Tactical Truck (CTT) Program on location at Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG), MD.

The Test Site Representative (TSR)/Heavy Wheeled Vehicle Mechanic will provide support to the testing of CTT sample vehicles provided by GM Defense (GMD) and/or American Rheinmetall (ARV). This testing will occur at APG. This position is 100% on site at APG during testing activities with a combination of on-site and telework outside of testing activities. Travel to Germany is required for 1 to 2 months for training conducted by Rheinmetall.

The TSR/Heavy Wheeled Vehicle Mechanic will work independently. Repair a variety of heavy equipment and tactical and commercial vehicles. Maintain, repair, rebuild a variety of engines, brake systems, drive trains, suspension systems and electrical systems. Provide support in testing and maintenance of developmental items primarily, but not limited to, prototype tactical heavy wheeled trucks and trailers. Duties require application of extensive practical knowledge of various equipment areas such as mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems. Operate and maintain all forms of automotive and support type equipment using a wide range of mechanical concepts and principles. Troubleshoot and diagnose faults by using the proper diagnostic equipment. Interpret wiring schematics and hydraulic flow charts. Document repairs needed, recommend/ research repair parts, and complete required paperwork. Repair and service automotive air conditioning systems used with automotive and support equipment. Preform wielding repairs as required.

Duties include:

Accounting for end-to-end coverage of CTT testing activities to include but not limited to: equipment arrival, truck/trailer offload, storage, vehicle maintenance of equipment in storage, de-processing, equipment status reporting, and training.

  • Attending vehicle training conducted by Rheinmetall in Germany.

  • Attending Rheinmetall training in Munich, Germany for 1-2 months to familiarize themselves with the operation and maintenance of the vehicle prototype system(s) for CTT testing.

  • Preforming heavy truck maintenance, specifically, maintaining the GMD/ARV vehicle prototype system(s) and performing all maintenance and troubleshooting required.

  • Preforming welding services as required for the GMD/ARV vehicle prototype system(s).

  • Assisting ARV in New Equipment Training (NET) of government operators.

  • Supporting Government Test Readiness Reviews (TRR).

  • Supporting both the opening and closing of the Test Facility/Testing Event.

  • Participating in Test Meetings, Test Readiness Review (TRR), and FACAR (Failure Analysis and Corrective Action Report) Reviews via tele-conference or on-site.

  • Reviewing released Test Incident Reports (TIRs) through Vision Digital Library System (VDLS) and delivering FACAR responses.

Here’s what you’ll need :

  • Required Education and Experience: · Must have 3 years of applicable experience; or completion of formal training and 2 years of applicable experience.· Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required.· Active secret security clearance is required.Preferred Skills and Qualifications:· Experience supporting the US Army or DoD is helpful, but not required.· A valid Class A & B CDL is preferred, but not required.· Welding skills are preferred.· Excellent communication skills are preferred.Additional Information:

  • Mechanics tools will be provided.

Travel

Overseas travel to the customer’s location in Munich, Germany for 1-2 months is required. Additional travel to and from customer's locations in the US may or may not be required to support projects. This will involve airline travel. In some cases, accommodations can possibly be made for POV, if necessary. When operating any vehicle for work purposes, seat belts must be worn, and no cellular devices are to be used when the vehicle is in motion.

Essential Functions for Position

Physical Requirements

Medium- Exerts up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects. Frequent kneeling, crouching, stooping, and walking are required. Work requires light to moderate physical effort in reaching, bending, turning, or moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to operate hand and foot controls while driving, raising, lowering, and tilting forklift trucks.

Work Environment

Must be capable of working in an outside environment, exposed to heat, dust, inclement weather for 8 hours in a workday. Needs to be able to work well with co-workers and all levels of management. No hazards on job or unusual environmental conditions. Maintains a clean work area and works in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.

Equipment and Machines

Ability to operate office equipment such as a personal computer, printer, copy machine, telephone, fax machine, and other equipment including desk supplies and other work-related tools as required. May operate transportation equipment to include man-lifts, forklifts, electric carts, pallet jacks, dollies, or other heavy equipment (or a willingness to learn)

Attendance

Normal hours are Monday - Friday between 6:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Punctuality and regular attendance are necessary to meet deadlines. Must exhibit flexibility of work hours to adjust to surge situations based on critical mission requirements. With the exception of STD/LTD/ FMLA & approved time off, attendance is considered essential.

  • Willingness to work at heights up to 50 feet or in enclosed spaces.

  • Must be able to move in and around confined spaces and uneven areas.

  • Must have full range of motion.

  • Must be able to adequately hear and respond to voice commands and alerts from other employees, alarms, and other job-related noises.

  • Must be able to consistently to work 40 hours per week operating in varying temperature extremes and conditions, including additional overtime as needed.

  • Must possess enough strength and stamina to perform all duties, requirements, and functions as identified above.

  • Must successfully complete all applicable Federal and State mandated physical assessments.

  • Musty complete pre-employment and ongoing drug-testing.
