Job Description

Serves as a geodetic technician and is responsible for planning, directing and conducting geodetic studies, surveys and investigations which involve the collection and processing of surveying and mapping data in support of Army testing. Duties and Responsibilities* Serves under the supervision of the chief of the organizational segment, who assigns area of responsibility and relies upon the incumbent for independent accomplishment of assigned functions. * Participates in planning and interpreting test requirements, conditions relevant to tests to be conducted, accuracies required and methods, techniques and equipment required to accomplish assignments. * Supervisor is usually available for advice on usual or controversial problems. * Completed work is reviewed for general adequacy and conformity to purpose of assignment. * Technical accuracy is normally accepted. Executes works to the highest order of accuracy and precision as specified by the Customer and or National Geodetic Survey/ National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration in support of ballistic testing, live fire testing, transportability testing, range expansion and development, precise mapping, high definition survey (3D laser scanning), and others where work requires application of practical knowledge of theories and techniques of geodesy. * Conducts extensive investigations and projects in the field of geodesy, geodetic surveying, topographic surveying, and high definition survey (3D laser scanning) as required independently without direct supervision. * Execute stake-outs, installation of surveying monuments or surveying controls. * Have advanced knowledge and be proficient in performing a variety of high definition survey (3D laser scanning) duties to include data collection and processing of test vehicles and items of varying sizes, complexity and conditions. * Scanning requirements shall vary greatly in terms of accuracy, difficult and level of detail. * Be proficient in planning, setting up, and operating various laser scanning equipment without assistance of higher-level employee. * Operate various software packages for post-scan processing of collected data. * Perform assessments of collected data in an office setting to include downloading collected data, importing high definition survey scans into processing software, registering scans, checking accuracy, manipulating and improving point cloud. * Post-process collected data for mission deliverables. * Research advancements in surveying equipment, technology, software and new and emerging methods of surveying and laser scanning. * Collect and tabulate data, record and archive information, make field calculation to ensure accuracies meet those specified by the Customer and or National Geodetic Survey/ National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and author detailed daily and summary reports. * Writes reports or technical documents as required. * Ensures surveying equipment is properly maintained, calibrated and serviceable. * Reviews work schedule and plans work to meet priority deadlines. * Work may require entering confined spaces, climbing in or under vehicles and traversing adverse terrain. * Adapt to rapidly changing operational tempo and new procedures. * Be proficient in setting-up, adjusting, and operating various pieces of electronic instrumentation. * Work is reviewed for overall adequacy and accuracy of services provided, satisfactory execution of the job and conformance with instructions. * Pending on mission requirements, work may be performed outdoors where there are regular and recurring exposures to all kinds of weather conditions. * Incumbent shall lead, direct and train junior employees engaged in geodetic field surveys in compiling, interpreting and reducing surveying data. * Work requires the use of protective equipment and clothing. * Requires the ability to carry loads/heavy equipment (up to 50 lbs.). * Other duties as assigned. * May require overtime work (25-30% of the time) or TDY if testing is performed in areas away from the installation (25-30% of the time).

Qualifications

Pay Rate: $ 55.40Required Skills and Qualifications* Must have 7 yr. of applicable experience or at least 60 credit hours or an Associate’s Degree and 5 yrs. applicable experience; or 30 credit hours and 6 yr. applicable experience; or completion of a formal training program and 5 yrs. applicable experience; or a Bachelor’s Degree and 3 yrs. applicable experience; or a Master’s Degree and 1 year applicable experience.* Shall possess basic computer skills.Physical Qualifications* The work of this position is performed in the field where you are subject to the environment and sometimes in an environmentally controlled office environment.* Must be able to enter confined spaces, climb in or under vehicles, and traverse adverse terrain.* Must be capable of lifting 50 lbs. unassisted.* Must be capable of squatting, crouching, standing, climbing, stooping, and sitting, sometimes for extended periods while performing duties.* Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for work tasks assigned.* Reasonable accommodation can be made to enable people with disabilities to perform the duties and responsibilities.Terms of Employment & Eligibility Requirements* Must be a U.S. Citizen.* Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.* Must possess a valid driver's license, without special restrictions.* Must pass a pre-employment drug screening and physical and periodic retests. * Must be able to successfully complete a background check. * Must possess or be able to obtain a security clearance prior to employment and maintain security clearance for the duration of employment.The above are not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties and skills required of personnel in this position.
