Position

High Temperature Materials Lab Manager

  • Location: Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Maryland

  • Security Clearance: Active Clearance or Eligible to Obtain - U.S. citizenship required

  • Salary: $85,000 - $100,000 Depending on Experience and Education

  • Travel: 5%

    Position Summary

    SURVICE Engineering is currently seeking a High Temperature Materials Lab Manager to support our Aberdeen Research Operation. You will accelerate your career and become an integral team member within the defense community.

    Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operate, maintain, and coordinate maintenance plans of SEM, mass spectroscopy, Xray detraction, and optical microscopy, in particular: Burner Rig, Mach 6+ Rig, MTS rigs, SEM (EDS/EDX/EBSD), and XRD

  • Maintain the lab equipment for safety and typical maintenance from typical lab consumption. Also function for procurement of materials needed for lab functionality.

  • Prepare samples of both hard and soft materials for investigation.

  • Operate and maintain the applicable assigned laboratory space.

  • Prepare samples and subsequent optimum micrographs.

  • Prepare presentations and written documents summarizing efforts

    Minimum Qualifications of High Temperature Materials Lab Manager

    Bachelor's Degree in Materials Science or Engineering Discipline and 1+ years of relevant experience. Exceptional candidates with less experience will be considered. Candidates are not required to possess all qualifications; if you possess some of the desired qualifications, please apply.

  • Have a background in materials science or engineering related to high temperature metals or ceramics

  • Practical experience operating and maintaining scanning electron microscopes

  • Experience with various detectors, including Gatan, Energy dispersive X-Ray Spectroscopy (EDS/EDAX), Electron Backscatter Diffraction (EBSD)

  • Experience with sample preparation for hard and soft materials including polishing and cutting samples. Ion beam milling

  • Experience in writing guidelines or operator manuals

  • Experience using X-ray diffraction

  • Experience with thermomechanical test equipment

  • SECRET Security Clearance
