Our location in Abbott Park (Lake County), IL currently has an opportunity for a Scientist in Research and Development.

What You’ll Do

  • Responsible for implementing and maintaining the effectiveness of the quality system.

  • Understands and consistently follows documented procedures.

  • Executes assigned tasks; utilizes technical and theoretical understanding of several techniques to complete assigned tasks.

  • Conducts experiments related to panel manufacturing, accomplishes established milestones and summarizes data, interprets results and draws conclusions.

  • Lab Safety: Participates in routine maintenance and lab safety. Troubleshoots instrumentation or experiments.

  • Applies basic computer skills (includes word processing, spreadsheets, instrumentation-related and Abbott network systems). Produces reports and documents utilizing writing skills.

  • Recognizes and assists with the resolution of technical problems.

  • May prepare and deliver presentations of project results to own or other groups.

  • Shares knowledge and expertise with others in the work unit.

  • Prepares and aligns goals with manager's goals.

  • Influences decision-making through negotiation, addressing conflict, and by building productive working relationships within a team.

  • Plans time to accomplish tasks.

  • Conducts experiments according to plan.

  • Maintains appropriate documentation so that information and materials are traceable, and processes are transferable.

  • Exchanges information with appropriate frequency and within a time frame to maximize its utility and to promote cross-functional collaboration.

  • Takes thoughtful, yet timely, action when confronted with a problem or when made aware of a situation.

  • Brainstorms multiple approaches/solutions to approaching the business, processes, and daily work.

Education and Experience You’ll Bring


  • B.S. plus 4 years minimum related lab/industrial experience or M.S. with 2 years minimum relevant experience or Ph.D. in a life or physical science.

  • Basic Computer skills.

  • Knowledge of analytical instruments assigned by supervisor.


  • Proficient with eNovator, PEAR, EDMS, APLM, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Ability to run the ARCHITECT and Alinity Clinical Chemistry and Immunoassay platforms

  • Experience with Panel Manufacturing and Design Verification studies
